There is no mistaking this common and delightfully coloured little finch.
Or is there still possibility? Look here for more confusion.

It is normally found in flocks, sometimes called a "charm of goldfinches" which are often found on waste ground
eating the seeds of thistles and teasels.

This photo of a juvenile Goldfinch in September, shows a beginning to display adult plumage.
The orange colour on the forecrown is quite spectacular.
