It is found only in Colombia. The species is endemic to the
Atlantic coasts. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical
mangrove forest and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
It is threatened by habitat loss.

During
February and April of 2007 were captured the first two males
individuals of more
than 100 hummingbirds captured in the project. At present
the sequencing of the
sister species is being carryed out and promptly the first
genetic sequence of the
Sapphire-bellied Hummingbird will be obtained, a taxon whose
taxonomic status is still uncertain.
Chrysuronia lilliae was its new name in 2017
