Our
Beautiful World
|
Another beautiful day. Although we had no intensions of climbing up the volcanoes up here, we could not resist taking a picture of one of the most famous: Mount Hekla. We left the main road (No.1) at Meiritunga, and some miles further north we got this picture through our binocular. Off the main-road to take a picture of well-known Hekla. We got quite familiar with this beautiful flower while in Iceland. It is called Cardamine nymanii (that's latin, of course); the Lady smock in english. According to a book on flora, it does not grow in Iceland, so I'm not so sure... It might also be the Cardamine pratensis. Any more suggestions??? In Iceland we found it as quite common on grass-land. Our next stop was Hveragerði, where we arrive late in the afternoon. This is the city of the hot-springs, and therefore there were quite many glasshouses, where they grew vegetables like tomatoes, and of course, flowers. It was here we were fooled by the tourist-office, having closed on Saturday when we came. So when we headed for the hot-springs up in the mountains late afternoon about 17:00, we walked all the way up. We later experienced that we could have taken the car half the way. However, we got up there, only to turn back again, as we did not know that we had arrived just on the spot for a bath in the river. When we came back on Monday, we jumped into the river right where we were on Saturday. Anyway, had a short dip a little longer down later that night. Back to the car at 22:00 and went to bed. We did sleep well. More about this trip right HERE. After the tour up in the mountains yesterday night, and after so many impressions on day 1 and 2, we just felt for a quiet day, which we more or less spent by the car at the camp-site.
